Take-off Time

A bunch of these were in Dayton this weekend, so Damon and I drove out to see them. Among other things, they were launched from Aircraft Carriers in World War II on bombing runs over Japan. Getting these things safely on and off the carriers (which were themselves much smaller than what we have today) was an amazing feat, requiring extreme risk to both pilots and plane.

They played a pivotal role in turning the war for the allies when they began bombing Tokyo. Although the bombing cause relatively little physical damage, the news that allied forces were now able to bomb Tokyo helped provide belief to the forces that Japan was defeatable.

About Tim
I love landscapes and I love the mountains. Pretty simple really. I've always been interested in photography. My dad had an old camera that I wasn't allowed to play with for fear of breaking, but I'd often sneak it into my room anyway. I'd play with all the dials, look through the viewfinder, release the shutter, but I had no film. These days I don't need it.
